Changing your website URL on Wix depends on what type of change you need to make. There are three main approaches: modifying individual page URLs, changing your free domain URL, or connecting a custom domain.

Changing Individual Page URLs

To modify the URL of a specific page on your Wix site, log into your Wix account and navigate to the Wix editor. Click on "Pages and Menu" on the left side, hover over the page you want to change, and click the "More Actions" icon (three dots). Select "SEO Basics" from the dropdown, then enter your new page URL in the URL slug field and press enter.

Avoid using reserved URL paths like apps, API, robots.txt, or sitemap.xml to prevent errors. Wix automatically creates a 301 redirect from the old URL to the new one, which maintains your SEO integrity.

Changing Your Free Plan URL

If you're using a free Wix plan, you can modify your site address by changing your site name. Log into your Wix account and go to the dashboard, click "Site Actions" (the three dots icon) in the top right corner, and select "Rename Site". Edit your site name and press Save.

Your free Wix URL follows the format: yoursite.wixsite.com. When you change your site name, this URL will update accordingly. After making changes, remember to republish your website to apply them.

Connecting a Custom Domain

To completely change your website URL to a custom domain like yourbusiness.com, you'll need to upgrade to a premium Wix plan. Click "Connect Domain" in your Wix account dashboard, then choose to either purchase a new domain through Wix or connect an existing domain you already own.

If connecting a domain registered elsewhere, Wix will provide DNS records that you must update with your registrar. Follow Wix's guided setup instructions with visual prompts and assign your new domain to your website. Once connected, your website URL updates automatically to your custom domain. Note that changes may take up to 48 hours to propagate due to DNS settings.

Setting Up URL Redirects

If you need to redirect old URLs to new ones, use Wix's redirect manager. Navigate to "SEO" in your dashboard (under "Website & SEO" in "Site & Mobile App"), click "URL Redirect Manager", and select "New Redirect" in the top right. Choose "Single redirect" or use the group redirect feature for multiple pages, enter the old URL and new URL, then click "Save".
