Changing your URL in Wix depends on whether you want to modify individual page URLs or your entire site's domain.

Changing Individual Page URLs

To change the URL of a specific page on your Wix website, log into your Wix account and open the editor. Click "Pages and Menu" on the left side, then hover over the page you want to modify. Click the "More Actions" icon (three dots) and select "SEO Basics" from the menu. In the URL slug field, enter your new page URL and press Enter to save your changes.

When you change a page URL, Wix automatically creates a 301 redirect from the old URL to the new one, which maintains your SEO integrity. Make sure to avoid using reserved URL paths like apps, API, robots.txt, or sitemap.xml, as these can cause errors.

Changing Your Free Wix URL

If you have a free Wix plan, your default URL follows the format: accountname.wixsite.com/site-name. You can modify two parts of this URL.

Changing Your Account Name: Log into your Wix account and navigate to Account Settings. Go to the Basic Info section, type your new account name in the Account name box, and click Save.

Changing Your Site Name: Go to your Wix dashboard, click Site Actions (three dots in the top right), select Rename Site, edit your site name, and click Save.

Note that you cannot remove the "wixsite" portion of your free URL unless you upgrade to a premium plan.

Upgrading to a Custom Domain

To use a completely custom domain name (like yourname.com), you'll need to upgrade to a premium Wix plan. Open your Account Settings by clicking the icon in the top right corner and click "Connect Domain" near the top of your profile or in the setup checklist. Choose to either purchase a new domain name or connect an existing one, then assign your new domain to your website.

Using URL Redirect Manager

If you need to redirect multiple pages or set up custom redirects, you can use Wix's URL Redirect Manager. Navigate to "SEO" under "Website & SEO" in your dashboard and click "URL Redirect Manager." Select "New Redirect" in the top right, choose "Single redirect" (or group redirect for multiple pages), enter the old URL under "Old URL" and the new URL under "New URL," then click "Save."
