How do you delete a Wix site?
Deleting a Wix website is a straightforward process that can be completed directly from your account dashboard. Here's what you need to know about removing your site.
The Basic Deletion Process
To delete your Wix site, start by logging into your Wix account and navigating to the My Sites page. Locate the website you want to remove and click the three-dot icon (Site Actions) next to it. From the menu that appears, select Move to Trash. This action immediately unpublishes your site and moves it to the Trash folder.
Understanding the 90-Day Grace Period
When you move a site to Trash, it isn't immediately deleted permanently. Wix keeps it in the Trash folder for 90 days, giving you time to restore it if you change your mind. This safety feature ensures you won't lose your work due to an accidental deletion.
Permanent Deletion
If you want to remove your site completely without waiting 90 days, navigate to the Trash folder in your My Sites view. Find the site you moved to Trash and select Remove Site or Delete permanently, then confirm your decision. Once permanently deleted, your site cannot be recovered.
Important Considerations Before Deleting
Before you delete your site, take care of a few housekeeping items:
Disconnect Your Domain: If you have a custom domain connected to your site, disconnect it first by going to the Domains section in your dashboard and selecting "Unassign from this site." This prevents any issues with your domain registration.
Cancel Premium Subscriptions: If you have active premium plans or subscriptions linked to the site, cancel them in the Billing and Subscriptions section to avoid ongoing charges after deletion.
Account vs. Site Deletion: Remember that deleting a site doesn't close your entire Wix account. You can remove individual sites while keeping your account active for other websites or future projects.
